- What is Wealth Bonus?
Wealth Bonus® is a monetary reward, built into participating products across the Sanlam Group, that helps you to build meaningful long-term wealth.
These monetary benefits can be viewed and tracked for each product in your Wealth Bonus Dashboard, via the Sanlam Client Portal. If you have a Wealth Bonus product, you automatically gain access to complementary Wealth Bonus Lifestyle benefits.
- What is Wealth Bonus value?
Your Wealth Bonus value is the amount of money you have accumulated in your Wealth Bonus portfolio.
Your Wealth Bonus value includes the monetary contributions Sanlam has made to your Wealth Bonus portfolio on your behalf, plus the contributions you have made as well as the interest earned on these contributions.
- How do I earn Wealth Bonus?
To get started with Wealth Bonus, you must buy a participating Sanlam Group product. Your Wealth Bonus will start to accumulate, according to each product’s rules.
You can grow your Wealth Bonus by adding more participating products to your Sanlam Group portfolio. Each qualifying product you add means more money contributed to your Wealth Bonus every month.
- Which Sanlam products earn Wealth Bonus and how much?
The following products qualify for Wealth Bonus:
Matrix Premier risk plan (for older plans prior to 2021), you need to buy-up to qualify for Wealth Bonus
Matrix Premier Smart
Cumulus Echo Retirement Plan
Cumulus Echo Preservers

- How can I find out the value of my Wealth Bonus?
Your current value is shown in the ‘Overview’ tab of your Wealth Bonus Dashboard, and in the navigation bar. Go to sanlamonline.co.za and login to access your Sanlam Portfolio and find the link to the Wealth Bonus Dashboard tab.
The current value of your Wealth Bonus will change over time. If there are any changes to your Wealth Bonus portfolio (for example, interest earned, additional qualifying products added, cancellation of a product, payment lapses, market changes, two-pot withdrawals from your retirement plan, and other reasons depending on the participating product) it could affect the current value of your Wealth Bonus.
- When do I gain access to my Wealth Bonus or when does my Wealth Bonus unlock?
Each participating Wealth Bonus product comes with a unique set of rules as to when the Wealth Bonus value can be accessed. Depending on the product/s you have with Sanlam, you will be able to access, or unlock, Wealth Bonus funds at predetermined intervals.
For example, with your Sanlam Personal Loan, your Wealth Bonus is automatically paid out once the conditions have been met. However, Wealth Bonus you earn on your Cumulus Echo Retirement Plan (RA) will only be available to you as part of any two-pot retirement system savings withdrawal, when you terminate the plan or retire. Please note that Wealth Bonus on the Cumulus Echo RA is part of the retirement proceeds and is subject to pension fund rules.
- How is my Wealth Bonus calculated?
Your Wealth Bonus calculation depends on the product you buy. Some products contribute a percentage of your monthly contribution towards your Wealth Bonus. With other products, your Wealth Bonus is based on the accumulated fund value which is impacted by the positive or negative growth of the market.
- How much Wealth Bonus do I get?
How much Wealth Bonus you get over time is affected by the following factors:
The Wealth Bonus rules of the participating products you buy.
How long you have these products for. Some products have Wealth Bonus that unlocks quarterly or annually, and other products have Wealth Bonus that will unlock every five years, for example, Matrix Premier risk plans.
Whether you withdraw your money when it becomes unlocked, or whether you choose to keep it invested and earn more interest.
Market performance may also impact your returns.
- How does my Wealth Bonus grow?
You can grow your Wealth Bonus by adding more participating products to your Sanlam Group portfolio. Each product you add means another product helping you grow your Wealth Bonus every month.
You can also earn more Wealth Bonus with Wealth Bonus Boosters (which give you additional Wealth Bonus on top of the Wealth Bonus you currently earn) by having a combination of two products.
The longer you keep your Wealth Bonus, the more it will grow over time due to compounding interest.
- What is Wealth Bonus Booster?
Wealth Bonus Booster is additional Wealth Bonus on top of the Wealth Bonus you already earn on the participating products. It is available to graduates and professionals within certain age brackets, paying certain minimum premiums and who have the following two products:

Sanlam Matrix Premier risk Plan
- What is Health Boost?
Health Boost gives you an additional 15% Wealth Bonus you already earn if you have a Sanlam Matrix Premier plan and you belong to a Fedhealth Medical aid scheme.
- What is extended Wealth Bonus?
Extended Wealth Bonus provides even greater value to you for keeping your Sanlam Matrix Premier or Sanlam Matrix Premier Smart plan active beyond the age of 70, after your Wealth Bonus has become fully unlocked.
This benefit allows for the continued accumulation of additional Wealth Bonus amounts, which are unlocked at certain milestone ages from age 75 until the age of 100.
- Who qualifies for the Extended Wealth Bonus?
You qualify if your policy includes Wealth Bonus from when it was issued on or after 1 January 2024, is still active, and has at least one benefit that lasts until or past age 75.
- When does Extended Wealth Bonus unlock?
Partial Unlocks: Beginning at age 75, 50% of the accumulated Extended Wealth Bonus unlocks every five years. From age 90 this will happen annually.
Final Unlock: At age 100, the full remaining amount becomes available.
- What will happen to my Wealth Bonus if I pass away?
In the event of a product holder passing away, any unlocked Wealth Bonus amount will be paid out immediately to the holder’s estate or to their beneficiaries. Access to any ‘locked’ amount will depend on the specific rules of the participating product.
- Can I add funds to my Wealth Bonus?
No. Your Wealth Bonus monetary rewards aren’t savings, so you won’t be able to add your own ad hoc contributions.
- What happens to my Wealth Bonus if I cancel one of my products?
If you remove a participating product from your portfolio, you would lose any locked Wealth Bonus associated with that product. This will also have an impact on your future Wealth Bonus value (the amount you’ll have in the future). Please check your specific product rules to find out more.
If you cancel a product which is a qualifying product to earn one of the Wealth Bonus Boosters, you will lose your locked Wealth Bonus Booster value.

- How can I withdraw my Wealth Bonus?
Each participating product earning you Wealth Bonus has a unique set of rules on how much Wealth Bonus you earn and when the Wealth Bonus unlocks, which can then be withdrawn as cash.
Monthly communication email or sms is sent to clients informing them about their Wealth Bonus value, including their accumulated Wealth Bonus and how much is currently available to withdraw.
Please note the longer you keep your Wealth Bonus the more interest you can earn and more opportunity to grow your Wealth Bonus.
- When can I withdraw my Wealth Bonus?
With some products or all your Wealth Bonus will be unlocked at regular intervals for withdrawal. For other products, your Wealth Bonus value will only be unlocked when you make a two-pot retirement system savings withdrawal, terminate the plan or retire. For Cumulus Echo Retirement Plans, Cumulus Echo Preservers and Sanlam Retirement Plans, your Wealth Bonus is part of your retirement proceeds and will be subject to pension fund rules.
- Do I have to withdraw it all at once?
Some products (like Matrix Premier risk plans) allow you to keep unlocked money invested and withdraw it at any time. Others will automatically transfer funds to you once they are unlocked, such as Sanlam Personal Loan. Certain products will only pay out your Wealth Bonus when you make a two-pot retirement system savings withdrawal, terminate the plan or retire, such as the Cumulus Echo Retirement Plan.
- What does a Wealth Bonus 'payout' mean?
A Wealth Bonus payout is when the portion of your Wealth Bonus has unlocked’ and becomes available to you to transfer into your preferred bank account, depending on the product rules.
- What does it mean if my Wealth Bonus is 'unlocked'?
When some (or all) of your Wealth Bonus is ‘unlocked’ it means that you can withdraw that Wealth Bonus value, depending on the product rules.
- Do I have to withdraw my Wealth Bonyus on 'unlock' dates?
Some products will transfer money out of your Wealth Bonus as soon as it is unlocked. For other products, you can choose to leave your ‘unlocked’ funds in your Wealth Bonus to keep growing with compound interest.
- How do I withdraw my Wealth Bonus when it is 'unlocked'?
When you want to withdraw unlocked money from your Wealth Bonus, you need to select a bank account linked to one of your products into which the money must be transferred. All of this takes place inside your Wealth Bonus Dashboard. Sanlam will then transfer the money to you as cash. It will take up to four business days to reflect in your bank account.

- Can I use my Wealth Bonus to cover medical expenses in the case of terminal illness or injury?
The only way you can access your Wealth Bonus value is when it becomes unlocked. It is not like a savings account where you can withdraw the money whenever you would like. You can however use the Wealth Bonus as you choose once you have withdrawn the unlocked amount.
- Can I close my Wealth Bonus and withdraw the funds?
No. A product’s Wealth Bonus is a loyalty reward that you get as a reward for remaining a client. To get a product’s full Wealth Bonus payout, you have to keep that product active until the full amount is unlocked.
- When will my Wealth Bonus unlock for each of my products?
Each Wealth Bonus qualifying product has different rules.
Matrix Premier: 5% is unlocked every 5 years, with the full Wealth Bonus being unlocked at age 70, while early Maturity-top up (age 65) with an additional 5% cost to you.
Cumulus Echo Retirement Plan: 100% unlocks at normal retirement, ill-health or in the case of death. Unlocks partially at early termination before normal retirement, or any two-pot retirement system savings withdrawals.
Cumulus Echo Preservers: 100% unlocks at retirement age. At early retirement, termination or pass away, the accumulated Wealth Bonus will be paid.
Wealth Edge Endowment plan: Sanlam adds a refund of certain charges as Wealth Bonus on every 5th plan anniversary and the money unlocks when the endowment matures.
Sanlam Personal loan: unlocks Wealth Bonus at early or term settlement of loan.
Wealth Bonus Booster for graduates and professionals: Money unlocks from age 50, depending on age at qualification, with 100% unlocked at age 60.
Health Boost: generates more Wealth Bonus on your Matrix Premier risk policy with a qualifying medical aid.
- Why did I receive a statement about Wealth Bonus?
If you received a statement via email or SMS about Wealth Bonus, it means that you have products with Sanlam that qualify for Wealth Bonus, our monetary rewards system. We communicate to you monthly about your Wealth Bonus, such as how much Wealth Bonus you’ve accumulated and how much is available to withdraw (unlocked) currently.
- What do the values on my Wealth Bonus statement mean?
The values on your Wealth Bonus statement are your accumulated Wealth Bonus (locked and unlocked), at a certain date. The unlocked amount of your Wealth Bonus that is available for you to withdraw, and for some products, the current projected (future) value of your Wealth Bonus.
- Is the number in my statement my full Wealth Bonus value?
In your Wealth Bonus statement, you will have three values:
Your current accumulated Wealth Bonus
The amount of your Wealth Bonus that is currently ‘unlocked’ and available for you to withdraw at a certain date.
For certain products, you will also see the projected (future) value of your Wealth Bonus.
- How do I log in to my Wealth Bonus portal?
To access your Wealth Bonus Dashboard, log in through the Sanlam Client Portal.

- I can’t login to my Wealth Bonus dashboard?
Ensure that you use the correct username and password to access your Sanlam Client Portfolio, to which you can click to the Wealth Bonus Dashboard.
- My cell phone number/email address has changed. How do I re-register my details?

- Where can I see my Wealth Bonus value online?

- Why did I receive an email/SMS about Wealth Bonus?
If you received an email or SMS about Wealth Bonus, it means that you have products with Sanlam that qualify you for Wealth Bonus, our monetary rewards. We communicate to you monthly about your Wealth Bonus, such as how much you’ve accumulated and how much is available to you currently.
- I’m no longer getting emails about my Wealth Bonus. What do I do?

- What does the value on the email I received mean?
The value in your email is your accumulated Wealth Bonus value at a certain date. For your most up-to-date value and which products are contributing towards your Wealth Bonus, visit the Wealth Bonus dashboard at cp.sanlam.co.za.
- I received an SMS about Wealth Bonus. What does this mean?
If SMS is your preferred method of communication from us, you will receive a monthly message that directs you to the Wealth Bonus dashboard to view your latest Wealth Bonus value at a certain date.
- When will I receive my Wealth Bonus correspondence?
Monthly communication email or sms is sent to clients informing them about their Wealth Bonus value, including their accumulated Wealth Bonus and the how much is currently available to withdraw at a certain date.
- What are Wealth Bonus lifestyle benefits?
All Sanlam Group clients who earn Wealth Bonus also receive a set of lifestyle benefits automatically, at no extra cost. These are managed by Sanlam Reality, Sanlam’s lifestyle programme. Visit https://www.sanlamreality.co.za/wealth-bonus-lifestyle/benefits for more information.
- How do I know if I get Wealth Bonus Lifestyle benefits?
If you have a Wealth Bonus qualifying product, you automatically receive lifestyle benefits. Visit the Wealth Bonus Lifestyle for more information. In addition, if you have a Sanlam SKY funeral policy, a Sanlam Group Risk benefit or is a member of the Sanlam Umbrella Fund, you also have access to Wealth Bonus Lifestyle Benefits.
- Where can I see all my benefits?
You can visit the Wealth Bonus Lifestyle and navigate to the ‘Benefits’ tab. Here you will be able to see all of the benefits that you have access to with your qualifying product.
- Is there a way to access additional benefits?
