Your questions answered

  1. What if I don’t have all the necessary claim documents?

If you don’t have all the documents at the time, you can still submit your claim. Email any outstanding documents to digitalinsuranceclaims@sanlam.co.za. Please note that we can only process your claim once we have all the required documents. Any documents that reach us late will delay your claim assessment.

  2. Notification of Death (BI-1663) or Death Report (BI-1680): This is issued by the doctor or hospital where the person passed away. If the person passed away at home, a medical practitioner, police officer or undertaker who certified the death will complete this. Death certificate: You can apply directly through Home Affairs. If you’re using a funeral parlour, they often help to register the death and get the certificate. Police report: This is required only if the cause of death is unnatural or suspicious. You can get a copy of the policy report from the SAPS station where the death was reported.

  3. Policyholders with a registered Sanlam Online account can log in to their account and track their claims under the Claims section. Beneficiaries of the policy won’t be able to track claims online, but we will keep you informed every step of the way, so you’ll know exactly how your claim is progressing.

  4. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way, so there’s no need to worry. Once your claim is approved, you’ll receive an SMS and an email to confirm. We’ll also notify you as soon as your payment has been processed.

  5. No, each claim is for an individual family member and is assessed separately with its unique claim reference number.
