Excellence in Financial Journalism Award
Since 1974, the Awards are open to African journalists in print, online, radio and TV media who are based in Africa, working in an African news organisation and publish or broadcast their financial stories on the continent.

Open to African journalists in print, online, radio, and TV, based in Africa, working for African news organisations
Categories under consideration
Recognises financial journalism on African trade, investment, development, ESG (Environment, Social and Governance), and policy, with a Pan-African focus
Judged by a panel
Independent panel of experts (business editors, trainers, academics, economists, advisors) selects winners
Criteria being judged
News value, impact, reporting quality, analysis, originality, integrity, expertise, and storytelling
Nine distinct categories available for consideration
Entrants can submit one entry per category (maximum three categories in total). Print entries require two stories, while radio/TV entries need two recordings, all published/broadcast between 1 January – 31 December 2024. The same entry can't be used in multiple categories, and entries won't be returned.

Economy
Economy, political economy, and the impact of government policies and events, reflecting current trends domestically, regionally, or internationally.
Financial markets
This category focuses on financial markets, including equity, commodities, and capital/money markets, reflecting current trends and issues.
Consumer finance education
Educate Africans on personal finance, covering topics like savings, debt, and investments, by simplifying complex information to improve understanding.
The African Growth Story
Africa's economic progress, focusing on free trade, policies, and infrastructure, while showcasing successes, challenges, and interconnectivity.
Business and the Environment
Business's environmental engagement, covering in-country/pan-African climate responses, promoting ESG awareness, ensuring accountability.
Business and society
Examining business's ESG responses to stakeholder interests, promoting understanding, innovation, impact, and accountability in business-society interactions.
Financial audio/radio broadcast
Business, economics, financial markets, consumer finance, and the African Growth Story, presented through traditional radio or online audio platforms.
Financial video/tv broadcast
Business, economics, financial markets, consumer finance, and the African Growth Story, presented through traditional television or new media video platforms.

The top award winners are selected through an objective nomination and evaluation process by the independent judging panel. All winners receive a certificate of recognition.
